MCC gets Steam Workshop support

This is the season of Halo updates, it seems, as both Halo Infinite and Halo: The Master Chief Collection have dropped patches that offer some fairly useful new features. In the case of Halo Infinite, 343 Industries has added a new dedicated game browser that allows you to easily join different combinations of maps and modes, including the ones made in the Forge. You can also look forward to a new map, a newly unlocked Armor core, fixes for desynchronization issues, and more. For Halo: MCC, 343 has added Steam Workshop support, new skulls to collect in Halo 4, and more. Overall, it’s a surprising amount of stuff for a franchise that’s gotten a bad rap for not pushing enough content lately.

Here’s a summary of the new features and content added in the latest Halo Infinite update:

Dedicated gaming browser

Custom games can now be opened to all players via the new Custom Game Browser. This feature allows players to start and join a custom game using any combination of maps and modes, including content created in Forge. The Custom Game Browser lists currently active custom games that can Players can join it immediately without waiting in the lobby Once a custom game is over, all players in the session will remain on the same Fireteam The Fireteam captain can then start a new custom game The Customs Browser menu lists 12 sessions per page Use the shortcuts next to the number page to see more sessions or use the filter options to re-sort and narrow down the list of sessions.

When creating a custom game session for other players to join via the dedicated game browser, set the privacy setting under Lobby Options to Open. Other players can join the open session once the multiplayer match has started. To ensure that a custom game is listed in the customs browser menu, the privacy setting in the lobby options menu must be set to open.

Unlock new Core armor and Cadet skins

Previously released Armor Cores that could only be unlocked via Premium Battle Passes or Limited-Time Events are now available to all players for free. This includes:

  • Mark F [B]
  • Raksha
  • Yoroi
  • Eaglestrike

In addition, the following 10 Cadet Coatings have been added to all freely available Armor Cores: Cadet Blue, Cadet Brick, Cadet Brown, Cadet Cyan, Cadet Forest, Cadet Gray, Cadet Orange, Cadet Sage, Cadet Violet, Cadet Yellow

New multiplayer map: Empyrean

The new multiplayer arena map, Empyrean, is now available in Custom Games and different matchmaking playlists. Empyrean was created in the Forge and is based on the Halo 3 multiplayer map The Pit, albeit with modifications to the Halo Infinite sandbox. For example The machine gun turrets at each base are now scrap cannons and weapons scattered around the map now use weapon racks like other multiplayer Halo Infinite maps.”

Network improvements

As another step in the development team’s ongoing work to address networking and “desync” in Halo Infinite, players may notice the following improvements during online multiplayer matches:

  • Melee attacks now deal damage to Spartan glide more consistently.
  • When moving, melee stabs will continuously communicate with other players who are actively moving.
  • Dashing at the enemy and striking them with the energy sword more consistently should result in a one-hit kill.
  • Players will be less likely to teleport away or experience desynchronization after their car is hijacked.
  • Reloading weapons is less likely to result in “phantom” or “phantom” reloads that lead to inaccurate ammo counts and “blank shots”.

PC improvements

“This update delivers multiple improvements to PC based on both player feedback and bug investigations. Thank you for sharing feedback on the Halo Waypoint forums, and remember to submit bug report tickets if you run into a problem with the game!”

  • Red Reticle – With this update, PC players will now see the HUD’s target reticle turn red when aiming at an enemy within their weapon’s effective range. As reported in the “Sandbox Balance Updates | Winter Update” blog on Halo Waypoint, the development team will be monitoring how this change affects cheats.
  • High Dynamic Range Toggle – Gamers will now be able to enable and disable High Dynamic Range (HDR) via the Settings menu on PC. While also allowing players with compatible computer monitors to use HDR as expected, this switch may also improve the experience for players whose laptop or monitor(s) incorrectly display Halo Infinite due to mismatches in other HDR or system level settings.

Keyboard and mouse improvements

Mouse cursor on Xbox consoles – For better PC alignment, the cursor will now be available after a keyboard and mouse are connected to an Xbox console running Halo Infinite. As with Halo Infinite on PC, the cursor can be used to move between different menus, including In it all menus while editing the map in the Forge.

Key Walk Mouse and Keyboard Prior to this update, mouse and keyboard players who wanted to move slowly enough to avoid detection by enemy motion trackers had to crouch on foot. By attaching the newly added Walk key, players can now slow down their walking speed upright without crouching. An accompanying Player Walk Throttle Scale option will also allow players to adjust how slowly they move while walking. Players will be able to choose to hold the walk or switch it.

Report the player and mute

Players can now mute and report other players during multiplayer matches via the in-game scoreboard.
