The System Shock re-release release date is set for March 2023, 5 years and 3 months after the original date

System Shock’s new version has finally been pegged to a March 2023 release date. The Steam page already mentioned it, but the news is that the developers at Nightdive Studios acknowledged the release month in their latest Kickstarter update.

As some of you have already pointed out, this isn’t the first time we’ve announced a tentative launch window, but over the past few years, a lot has changed – the scope and scale of the project has evolved exponentially and with Prime Matter joining the project has enabled us to focus on quality of life improvements, And bug fixes, localization support – the last major steps towards releasing a game that we are all incredibly proud of. This also gave us time to go back and polish various aspects of the System Shock remake that needed a bit more polish.

Variables, influences and features

  • Upon reaching a locked area, you will now scan the appropriate card to enter.
  • Citadel has gone through some transformations and is ready for its big finale.
  • We have created some enemy variants to provide new challenges to the player in later levels.
  • This new enemy type is a call back to an original that was initially omitted, but we decided to include it.
  • Diego will be involved in many matches throughout the match.
  • Upgrading effects for weapons, such as the Plasma Rifle, provide an ultimate level of polish.
  • As you know, dismemberment was a top priority for us and every enemy receives a completely customized model of dismemberment – there are a lot of enemies and the amount of effort that goes into this is amazing.

The System Shock remake was first announced in November 2015. The project received a Kickstarter campaign in June 2016, when Nightdive Studios estimated a full release in December 2017. The campaign secured $1.35 million in funding, but the System Shock remake stalled in early 2018 when the developers admitted they took the “wrong path”.

Development had to resume, which resulted in significant delays. Later, Nightdive suggested a summer 2021 release window, but that didn’t work out either. In December 2021, Prime Matter announced that it will be publishing a System Shock remake. It’s possible that the deal helped bring the project to fruition, or at least we hope it did.

The System Shock remake for PC will be released via Steam, GOG, and the Epic Game Store; Also launching on PlayStation 4 | consoles 5, Xbox One, and Series S | X.
