Four-year-old Philippine retailer Hardware Sugar reported revenue during its early years as a computer component seller. It’s a convenience store that in no way compares to Amazon, Newegg, Best Buy, and others, but it gives insight into some of the more popular brands that are returned and the failure percentage from their shelves.
Hardware Sugar presents brand failure rates during its four years of selling computer components
Not surprisingly, graphics cards were at the top of the failing components, as only two companies on their list were sold – Gigabyte and MSI. The retailer sold 129 MSI graphics cards and a 141 GB GPU but saw a failure rate of five percent for the latter manufacturer. MSI has seen a failure rate of 1.5%, with only two returning in four years. Motherboards were also limited to MSI and Gigabyte, with 470 units sold and 388 units sold for the latter and failure rates of 2.4% and 1.8%, respectively.
Other limited component sales were on RAM and NVME SSD, with TeamGroup in both locations and G.Skill in RAM sales, and Samsung in SSD sales. TeamGroup had the highest failure rate in both categories, with RAM failures at 1% and NVMe SSDs failing at 1.2% in the last four years. G.Skill RAM was close to TeamGroup’s failure rate, at 0.66%. Samsung hasn’t made any returns on SSDs over the past four years with Hardware Sugar.

Power supplies and cooling products received the highest number of comps sold through Hardware Sugar, with PSUs offered by the retailer four brands and three brands of cooling supplies. In outage rates, Seasonic failed the most at 1.8%. The only manufacturer that did not have a single failed unit through the Philippine retailer was DeepCool. However, only 46 units were sold, while the other manufacturers – Corsair, Cooler Master and Seasonic – have sold more than 100 units over the past four years.
Cooling supplies were the most interesting, as NZXT was the only manufacturer on the list, which also included Corsair and DeepCool, to have any failed 4% cooling supplies.
The only missing information was when talking about motherboards from MSI and Gigabyte. It is unknown if it is a single brand that relies on the CPU (i.e. AMD or Intel), which leads one to wonder which company experienced the biggest failure during that time.
