The next-gen Witcher 3 hotfix comparison videos highlight improved frame times and more

The Witcher 3 next-gen received its first PC hotfix yesterday, promising to improve the game’s performance and stability. Detailed patch notes haven’t been shared, but some comparison videos shared online confirm that something has indeed improved, although performance is still far from optimal.

Comparison videos shared by BilkRok, MxBenchmarkPC, and Benchmark Central show how the hotfix essentially improved frame times, resulting in lower performance and slightly better stability, regardless of system configuration.

While performance is still not quite there, it’s still nice to see CD Projekt Red roll out its first fix for the next generation of The Witcher 3. Owners of NVIDIA RTX GPUs can also get slightly improved performance and visuals with this unofficial DLSS update, Which provides NVIDIA upgrade technology to the latest version, 2.5.0.

The Witcher 3 is now available on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch worldwide. You can learn more about the next-gen patch and issues with the PC version by checking out Alessio’s hands-on.

Finally, the free update is available for The Witcher 3 Next-Gen, which brings a host of quality-of-life and gameplay improvements as well as all the technical improvements. On PC, gamers can enjoy an all-new Ultra+ graphics preset. Then, on top of that, they can enable four ray tracing effects: global lighting, ambient occlusion, shadows and reflections, with the latter two not being available on consoles.

With everything turned on, the game looks absolutely amazing. Granted, it had a great base to begin with, but the textures are clearly higher quality here (in part thanks to the built-in tweaks), and the draw distance is greatly improved, as is the accuracy and sharpness of reflections and shadows. The star of the show is the beam of global illumination that elevates game lighting to new heights.
