The next generation of The Witcher 3 brought plenty of improvements to the massively popular role-playing game by CD Projekt Red, but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing left to improve or fix, not to mention obvious issues like ray tracing performance. .
Modder Darkenway today shared an interesting mod called Dynamic Combat Camera, which automatically switches the camera between default and settings in combat depending on the number of enemies. This is a very welcome feature, since the camera’s shutdown setting doesn’t work very well in a vanilla game due to enemies that tend to attack from off-screen without any visual cue.
Automatically switch between the default camera and the closing camera during combat, depending on how many enemies you’re up against at any one time.
The behavior is as follows:
- One foe -> Camera keys to close the camera preset
- One or more enemies -> the camera switches to the default camera setting
The camera resets when combat is over.
Another issue that has affected immersion in The Witcher 3 since its release is the bright nights. Earlier this week, Darker Nights was updated to work with the next-gen update, making nights much darker and much better looking, with or without ray tracing features.

Finally, the free update is available for The Witcher 3 Next-Gen, which brings a host of quality-of-life and gameplay improvements as well as all the technical improvements. On PC, gamers can enjoy an all-new Ultra+ graphics preset. Then, on top of that, they can enable four ray tracing effects: global lighting, ambient occlusion, shadows and reflections, with the latter two not being available on consoles.
With everything turned on, the game looks absolutely amazing. Granted, it had a great base to begin with, but the textures are clearly higher quality here (in part thanks to the built-in tweaks), and the draw distance is greatly improved, as is the accuracy and sharpness of reflections and shadows. The star of the show is the beam of global illumination that elevates game lighting to new heights.
