Star Wars Jedi: Survivor arrives in a few short months, and while the game certainly builds on the foundation laid by its predecessor, it introduces a number of new things in terms of combat, traversal, and the game world.
A new feature from Game Informer details some of these changes, including the game’s new set of fighting stances/styles. These include a dual-wielding option, the ability to hold a blaster and a lightsaber at the same time, and a heavy stance that has players wielding a crossguard-style lightsaber on Kylo Ren. According to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor director Stig Asmussen, switching between situations will be a major key to success in the game.
“We have five fully-aware stances in the game. A lot of them depend on the enemy you encounter. Certain types of stances are useful to use against certain types of enemies, and it’s up to the player to figure that out. It requires the player to smash the enemies and know the best weapon of choice.”
Combat isn’t the only thing getting an upgrade, as you’ll also have additional ways to get around, including a new ascent cable and several alien mounts to train. These new options allow for a more open Metroidvania approach according to Asmussen…
“It’s a much broader approach in Metroidvania. Cal can cross huge divides by chaining together several types of skills. But it’s also about how we approach these moves and how we use them to negotiate and take over the world.”
The Game Informer article hints at some other additions, including new companion AI characters and a never-before-seen Star Wars planet to visit. We hope to learn more about these soon.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor arrives on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5 on March 17, 2023.
