Plans to expand the range of foldable smartphones have long been a goal for Samsung, and according to a report, the company is expected to unveil a “hybrid” display technology with dual functions. For example, the screen will not only be able to fold, but also have the ability to slide or expand, thus almost smoothly increasing the size of the panel.
Samsung may only show its “hybrid” display technology to a limited number of viewers at a private booth at CES 2023
With CES 2023 expected to kick off on January 5, ETNews reports that Samsung has a feature that could satisfy the limited number of invitees who will step inside a private booth. Apparently, the Korean tech giant will be introducing a display that has the ability to fold and slide.
Of course, it won’t be possible to watch the technology in action simultaneously, so it’s likely that invitees trying the “hybrid” show themselves will either be able to collapse or expand the board. The report also states that the board measures 8 inches when measured diagonally and fully folded and increases to 10 inches when open.

When expanded, this tech can extend to 12.4 inches, effectively transforming into a tablet or laptop. Samsung could hit a new high with this product category, although its range of foldable smartphones has yet to reach the same success as regular-form phones. However, this “hybrid” technology leaves us with many questions. For starters, how much will this client cost?
Since it can slide and fold, a lot of research and development must have been invested, which means it wouldn’t be surprising if a commercial device ended up selling for $2,000 or more in the US. But since the report mentions that the unnamed device will shrink to a display size of 8 inches, we feel that it will be a smartphone with a rather long screen that hints at an unusual aspect ratio.
As such, the product is likely Android “out of the box,” and while we can’t confirm the information at this time, we’ll update our readers soon, so stay tuned.
