When it comes to video conferencing, Zoom is one of the best options on the market. It doesn’t matter if you use it from home or in the office; connects your team members in no time.
But you don’t need to use the video feature if you don’t need to. Just set your profile picture and use only sound.
Adding a profile picture is more personal than just showing your name in a meeting. In this article, we’ll show you how to change your profile picture and some other useful customization options.
Add Zoom Profile Image: Surface
One of the great things about Zoom is that you can customize your profile in many ways. To change your settings, you will need to access your profile through the Zoom web portal. So if you have the perfect profile picture ready, here’s what you need to do:
- Sign in to your Zoom account in a web browser.
Note: If you are using the Desktop application, you will be redirected to the web page.
- Click Profile in the left menu.
- Hover your mouse over the stock profile picture until the pencil icon appears. Then click on it.
- Click on Select a file.
- Select an image from your computer. Then crop the image and click Impose.
You can refresh the page and check your profile picture. If you are not happy with how it looks, repeat the process. Or if you change your mind about your Zoom profile picture, just select Delete.
Also remember that your image should not exceed 2MB and should be in one of the following formats: PNG, JPG or GIF.
You can also edit other personal information on the same profile page. Next to your profile picture is your display name. You can select Edit in the upper right corner of the screen to change it. You can also edit your email address and change your Zoom user type.
How to add a profile picture during a call
The next time you’re on a Zoom video call and you decide to turn off the camera, other participants will see your profile picture. But you can also add a profile picture during a Zoom video call.
- Just right click More video preview and select Edit Profile.
- When you stop the video, you will see your picture. The option to edit your profile picture doesn’t always appear. Sometimes you just need to click “More” to find the “Rename” option.
How to add a profile picture to a mobile app
If you primarily use Zoom on your mobile device, add a profile picture as follows:
- Launch the Zoom app.
- Choose “Settings.”
- Click on your name to access your “Profile.”
- Click on “Profile picture.”
- Choose either “Camera” or “Select from photo album” and select the desired profile picture.
How to disable profile pictures
You may also notice that there are no profile pictures displayed in this meeting. This happens when the meeting moderator has the option turned off. If you’re a moderator, you can turn this option on on the Zoom website. Follow these steps:
- Go to the Zoom website and sign in to your account. Click on ‘Settings” on the left and make sure you are on Meeting tab at the top.
- Scroll down to “Hide profile pictures of meeting participants.‘ Make sure it’s on. If that doesn’t work, Zoom warns that this feature is only available in versions 5.0.0 or later.
Add a picture to your Google Account for Zoom
There are four ways to sign in to your Zoom account. You can use your work email, Facebook, SSO or Google Account. In the latter case, Zoom will automatically load your Google or Gmail profile picture as your Zoom profile picture.
If your Google profile doesn’t have a picture, you can add it there first and then sign in to Zoom. This way you will have the same image in both places with a single upload. Here’s how to change your Google account picture:
- Sign in to your Gmail account.
- Choose Settings in the upper right corner of the screen.
- Select from the menu My picture and then Select Image.
- Upload a profile photo of your choice.
You can also change your Google profile picture from your mobile device. However, keep in mind that no matter where you make these changes, you will have to wait a while for them to take effect. But once they do, the same image will appear in all Google services, wherever you sign in with your account.
Frequently Asked Questions
Zoom is a program that has been around for a long time, but in 2022 it is being used more than ever before. If you’re still new to the platform, we’ve got answers to some other frequently asked questions right here:
My profile picture is not showing in the meeting. What’s happening?
Zoom makes it easy to sign in, and you don’t even need an account to join someone’s meeting. Assuming you clicked on a link to join someone’s meeting, you’re probably not signed in. If your profile picture isn’t showing, you’ll need to go to the Zoom app or web browser, sign in, and join the meeting using the meeting ID (which should have been sent to you in the invitation).
Also remember that Zoom meeting administrators have a lot of control over what you can do in the meeting. This means they may have turned off the option to show profile pictures within the meeting. If you’re sure you’re signed in to the right account, that’s probably why you can’t see your profile picture. To confirm, create your own appointment and see if your profile picture appears.
Do I even need a profile picture?
While not strictly necessary, it can be a great asset with many benefits. First, depending on the type of meeting you’re in, a profile picture can be a great replacement for turning off your camera. When you talk, your profile picture will be displayed, so it’s more pleasant and others can see who they’re talking to during the meeting.
Can I delete my profile picture?
If you update your profile picture during a meeting, be careful; there’s no way to change it from the meeting (so make sure you pick an image that everyone will be looking at for a while).
To delete your profile picture, you must do so from a web browser. In the menu on the left, click on “Profile” and then “Edit Profile”. Click “Delete” and confirm to delete your image.
Choosing the right profile picture is a big deal
How many profile photos do you have across apps and platforms? Probably a lot. When you’re setting your Zoom profile picture, you might be wondering what kind of message it’s sending?
Is it professional enough or is it too serious? Or maybe it’s best not to think too much about it. When you find the right image, follow the steps above to add it to your Zoom profile.
