Gran Turismo 7 is coming to PS VR2 at launch, and the first teaser for the Gran Turismo movie is shown

The expected PlayStation VR2 will launch in just a month, and today during their CES 2023 press conference, Sony improved their already powerful new headset launch lineup. We know games like Horizon Call of the Mountain and Resident Evil Village VR will be available alongside PS VR2 in February, but Sony has confirmed that one of its first recent games — Gran Turismo 7 — will be playable on a headset via a free update at launch.

Gran Turismo 7 VR

This wasn’t the only Gran-Turismo-related news revealed at CES. Sony also shared the first sneak peak of the Neill-Blomkamp-directed Gran Turismo blockbuster that hits theaters this summer. Blomkamp boasted of using Sony’s new high-end camera technology, which allowed him to capture a variety of unique angles reminiscent of those in GT games, without the use of CGI. The first trailer seems to back up that claim with footage that does look like it was ripped from the games in some ways. Check it out for yourself below.

There aren’t many hints about the story for the Gran Turismo movie, which Blomkamp and company promise is already there. It’s not just two hours of motoring around a track, as much as some gear heads might enjoy it. Here’s a quick official summary…

Based on a true story, the film is the ultimate wish-fulfillment story of a teenage Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills win him a series of Nissan competitions to become a professional race car driver.

PlayStation VR2 will launch on February 22nd at a price of $550. The free Gran Turismo 7 PS VR2 update should be released on the same day. Meanwhile, Gran Turismo hits theaters on August 11th. What do you think, GT fans? Excited about the latest franchise projects in the world of virtual reality and movies?
