God of War Ragnarok – The location of the mysterious legacy and how to use it

Relics can be a real game-changer in God of War Ragnarok, as they allow you to utilize special abilities and powers during combat when activated. However, one of the effects seems useless at first glance. It’s called Mysterious Legacy, it has a short 18-second cooldown, and its description says, “It seems important, but it doesn’t seem to have any practical application in combat.”

However, the Mysterious Legacy Relic can help you get one of the best armors in the game, the Steinbjorn set, which will give you some good defense stats and help you replenish your health. Let’s see how to get the mysterious legacy and how to use it in God of War Ragnarok.

brake alert: This guide contains spoilers for the game.

Where to find the mysterious Legacy Relic in God of War Ragnarok

To get the Mystical Legacy in God of War Ragnarok, you need to use Draupnir Spear. This powerful new weapon is given to you as part of the Fake fate Story quest, which takes place during the second half of the game. You will travel to The Forge in Svartalheim with Brok, which will lead you to the lady who will create the spear.

Once you have a Draupnir Spear, you can use it to fight but also unlock new paths and previously hidden areas. This is useful when searching for the mysterious heirloom, as it can only be collected by using the spear to break the ice block. More specifically, these ruins can be found in Midgard, southwest of the Temple of Tire.

You’ll soon notice a small area blocked by ice, and a small glowing crack in it, where you can throw your spear and make it explode. Do that, and you’ll notice an elf’s body on the snow, along with a lore scroll and a relic. It is indeed the mysterious legacy. Collect both from the ground, and read the scroll if you want hints on how to use the newly found item.

How to use the mysterious legacy relic

Once you find a mysterious Legacy Relic in God of War Ragnarok, you can select it in the list. Remember, you can only equip one relic at a time, so you won’t be able to activate any other specific ability in combat if you set that item as the one to use in the game. If you look at the trace information in the list, you’ll see this “Awakens a dormant thing” And as the short standby time suggests, it can be used frequently.

Indeed, a mysterious legacy can awaken powerful sleeping creatures, who will fight you and try to defeat you. You will find three different locations of Sleeping Troll and four waking Trolls in God of War Ragnarok. When you’re done, you’ll be able to craft the Steinbjorn set, which is an awesome defensive shield with high defense stats and the ability to restore some of Kratos’ health after taking heavy damage in combat.

To awaken the stone creatures in the game, you need to find their location, equip the Mystical Heirloom in the menu and use it by pressing L1 and Circle. This will start a tough fight with a small boss, so be prepared and make sure you take your time getting to know their attacking patterns. Once your enemy has been awakened, you can always go back to the menu and equip another relic so you can take advantage of certain effects during combat.

The secret stone creature in Dragon Beach

Trolls aren’t the only stone creatures you can awaken with a mysterious legacy relic. There is another difficult enemy in Svartalfheim, located on Dragon Beach. Find the giant dragon statue nearby, and use the remains to activate the mini-boss called The Everlasting.

This battle will be particularly difficult, so be prepared. Once you defeat him, you will be rewarded with Dragon Claws to craft Dragon Scale Armor and Jotunheim Power Charm that can be placed into the Yggdrasil Amulet.
