The 2021 Acer Predator Helios 300 was a huge step up in performance, which is why you didn’t see it in our recommendations when talking about gaming laptops. Fortunately, the company’s engineers went back to the drawing board, embodying not only a new chassis design, but an improved cooling solution that allows components to operate at their maximum potential. On Amazon, it’s currently $1,189.
The 2022 gaming laptop is made mostly of metal and features a 15.6-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1080p 165Hz with a response time of 3ms. The board is optimized for a 140W RTX 3060 GPU with 6GB of VRAM. Helping push those frameworks even further is a 14-core, 20-thread Intel Core i7-12700H CPU, giving you a competitive edge no matter what game you’re shooting. The Predator Helios 300 is by no means thin, and that was necessary in order for it to be equipped with capable hardware and a suitable cooling solution.
You also get 16GB of DDR5 RAM, along with 512GB of PCIe NVMe storage. This year, thanks to a redesign, Acer has equipped a large 90Wh battery, but since the Helios 300 features an Intel processor, you’ll only be able to get between 5-6 hours of runtime, so keep that in mind. Otherwise, the powerful internals are enough to power anything you throw their way, and the RGB keyboard adds a nice touch to the overall aesthetics, assuming you care about that.
The 2022 Acer gaming laptop also features a MUX switch, which switches from the integrated GPU to the dedicated RTX 3060 to give you more frames in games. Not only that, but extras like Wi-Fi 6E and NVIDIA G-Sync back up its value. Given the lack of effort Acer has put in with the 2021 model, we can confidently say that the company has redeemed its reputation with the 2022 release. Unfortunately, at the time of writing there are only 18 units left in stock, so you’ll have to make a purchase before time runs out.
