Best Wccftech platform games of 2022

The year 2022 saw the release of several new platform games; Some were remasters, while others were completely new entries, and these games are the subject of today’s list. We’ll take a look at the top five first-release platform games throughout 2022, including our thoughts on each of them.

Other Best Wccftech Games of 2022: Shooter, Fighting

Primordial world

Simply put, OlliOlli World is skateboarding but with a touch of side platforming. With lush and vibrant environments, a very relaxed overall feel, and multiple updates, including the release of DLC with new levels, this game is great for relaxing and not worrying about things going on outside. In our review of this game we said the following:

OlliOlli World features a cool atmosphere that allows players to enjoy performing skating tricks, whether it’s clearing platform challenges or simply challenging themselves to achieve the highest score. The game offers little else besides cosmetic rewards, but it more than makes up for it with its replayability and addictive nature. It’s the perfect game for those who want a game with the same level of depth as the Tony Hawk or Skateboard franchises.”

Sonic Frontiers marks a significant departure from the stage-to-stage formula seen in the last several platform games in the series. Instead, the game places Sonic in vast central worlds as he explores to rescue his friends from cyberspace and discover the secrets of the Starfall Islands. When we reviewed it last month, we said:

Sonic Frontiers may not be the best Sonic the Hedgehog game ever, but it’s definitely at the top level of the franchise. The new open-world formula works surprisingly well even with its issues, and the cyberspace stages and combat are well-designed, engaging, and most of all, fun. With a few tweaks, the Sonic Frontiers formula could be the foundation for the franchise moving forward, potentially returning it to its glory days.”

A series of color fantasy fantasy

Here’s a chain that hasn’t been in the sun for a long time. Klonoa’s first two platform games got a new version of Resident Evil 2’s level (completely rebuilt from the ground up rather than just a remake), and they’re both housed in a neat little package. I reviewed the game earlier this year and it said this:

“As mentioned before, the series offers a lot of fond memories and a very engaging plot. It makes me regret not playing these games when I had the chance back during the era of PlayStation games. However, I’m glad that mistake has now been corrected.”

Stray’s release in June 2022 brings the brand-new platform IP to PlayStation 5 and PC, tasking players with controlling an orange tablet and their robotic companion as they explore the vast underground city that takes up most of the game. The game turned out to be a smash hit. When we reviewed it, we said:

“The stray may be small and disjointed, but it’s also beautiful, made with love, and ranges from one genre and playstyle to the next with exquisite grace. Even a cat skeptic should be overcome with the game, so don’t be afraid to call this stray out cold.”

Kirby and the Forgotten Land

Kirby’s final adventures fall into players’ hands before fiscal 2021 ends for Nintendo and is one of his best yet. Players travel across vast landscapes with new mechanics, upgradeable abilities, and familiar faces everywhere. We reviewed the game earlier this year and had something to say about it:

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is one of the absolute best first-party games that Nintendo Switch has to offer. The game looks amazing to play, looks beautiful, and offers a vibrant and amazing world full of new mechanics, challenges, and content. Kirby fans have been waiting a long time for his first 3D game, and forget about it. Land is Super Mario 64 or Zelda: Ocarina of Time in pink, so breathe a sigh of relief and eat heartily.”

While we could only pick five for the main roster, this year also saw some additional platform games that we want to highlight, such as:
