These polished story-driven adventures include God of War Ragnarok and A Plague Tale: Requiem, the hardcore collection from Bayonetta 3, the open-world adventure Horizon Zero Dawn, and much more. As we prepare to really launch into the new generation over the next couple of years, these games have done a great job of smoothing the way. Get ready to fight and prepare for battle with the best action games of 2022 from Wccftech!

Noticeable: For the purposes of Wccftech’s Best Of listings, any game that requires fighting in order to progress is lifted in progress. There are three exceptions – games that focus specifically on role-playing (other than the standard action-adventure skill trees) will be reserved for the best RPGs of 2022 list, games that aim to scare you are saved in the best horror games of 2022, and games that require shooter skills. More seriously reserved for, you guessed it, the best shooters of 2022. So if you feel like there’s something missing here, there’s a good chance it’s simply on another of our lists.

Lego Star Wars The Skywalker Saga

Kids-focused games are often overlooked when it comes to compiling year-end lists, but Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga packs a lot of content that’s hard to ignore. Fans have certainly taken notice, as the game has been near the top of the sales charts for the majority of this year. While I found the game’s retelling of the nine-movie Star Wars series a little short at times, I had a lot of fun in the sandbox stages and highly recommended the games for families…

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga sets its sights high in the sky and leads pretty much into that galaxy far, far away. Its truncated handling of the films is sometimes disappointing, but the charming, content-packed sandbox stages mostly make up for any story mission shortcomings. These are well worth it. The lively play about George Lucas’ family drama is something to enjoy with you.”

Forbidden Horizon West is a projected work

Horizon Zero Dawn was one of the best and most polished open-world adventures of its generation, and with developer Horizon Forbidden West, Guerrilla Games has pushed just about everything to another level. Better graphics, a larger world, and more complex battles have fully drawn players into the unique world of Aloy once again. Alessio Palumbo of Wccftech found Horizon Forbidden West to be a worthwhile sequel in his review…

Horizon Forbidden West is a worthy sequel to Zero Dawn in every way, proving that Guerrilla is no one-hit wonder when it comes to the action RPG genre. This huge and beautiful world has an incredible amount of things to do and most of it is really fun, thanks Improvements to combat and traversal. The game also features another great story that will have fans talking about the inevitable sequel.”

A Plague Tale: Requiem 8k rtx 4090 dlss3

It can be hard to pin down The Plague Tale franchise – is it a business? venture? horror? – But for our purposes, we will be presenting the latest version of Asobo Studio in action. A Plague Tale: Requiem manages to recapture the tense gameplay and family drama that made its predecessor so memorable, while bumping up the presentation from AA to something decidedly AAA. Wccftech’s Chris Wray declared this sequel a no-brainer for anyone who enjoyed the first game in the series…

A Plague Tale: Requiem is a faithful follow-up to the first outing, managing to expand in every way while staying true to what made the first great. With solid gameplay, a great story that’s very well acted and presented, and set pieces that can challenge even the biggest A game in the making, if you liked Asobo Studio’s first outing, you’ll love this one.”

Bayonetta 3

Bayonetta 3 was a very long time ago, with fans left hanging nearly five years from the release announcement, but the end result was definitely worth the wait. While controversy over the voice acting and some complaints about the game’s story threaten to derail the conversation surrounding Bayonetta 3, the truth is that this is the biggest, loudest, and most fun entry in the series. Here are my final thoughts from my full review…

Bayonetta 3 is the series’ best entry yet, offering an engaging universe story, dazzling cinematic moments, and sublime action that’s accessible and deeper than ever before. The game can feel a little cramped on Switch, but Platinum hits every bit of performance potential from Hardware. Whether you and Bayonetta have a history or not, this is a post not to be missed.”

God of War Ragnarok

For many, 2018’s God of War is the defining example of a story-driven PlayStation game, so there was a lot of anticipation associated with God of War Ragnarok. Thankfully, the game more than delivered. Every bit as polished and engaging as its predecessor, Ragnarok is also essentially two games in one, packed with a massive amount of content and drama as Santa Monica Studio decided to wrap up Kratos’ Norse adventures in two games instead of three. Agnese Carluccio of Wccftech awarded the game a 10 out of 10 in her full review…

God of War Ragnarok is exactly what we hoped for, and more. It delivers a masterfully told story using a more mature approach, seasoned with a unique setting, rich character traits, and challenges that can keep even hardcore gamers busy on the highest difficulty. In other words, it’s a title Simply too cool to miss.”

As always, defining the boundaries of the action genre is a challenge, and some of the games you might have hoped for will appear on other lists – TMNT Shredder’s Revenge and Sifu are included in our list of the best fighters and you can expect The Last of Us Part 1 and Dying Light 2 from among horror games. Also check out our standalone list of gems like Tunic and Neon White. On top of that, there were a number of solidly entertaining games that didn’t quite make this list like Ghostwire Tokyo, Gotham Knights, Grounded, and Soulstice.
