Apple makes multiple external displays with Apple Silicon, including the Pro Display XDR

Apple is developing multiple external displays using Apple Silicon, including an upgraded version of the Pro Display XDR that launched in 2019 alongside the Mac Pro. Apple also unveiled its new Studio DIsplay earlier this year that houses the A13 Bionic chip. Scroll down to read more details on this topic.

Apple is working on new external displays with custom silicon, similar to the Studio Display with the A13 Bionic chip

Mark Gurman shared in his latest Power On newsletter that Apple is working on new external displays using Apple Silicon. Outdoor displays will be very similar to a studio monitor. It is also speculated that the company is working on an upgrade to the Pro Display XDR. Note that the analyst did not share details about the launch of the machines.

It’s also not clear at this point if Apple is planning to upgrade its recently launched Studio Display. Senior display analyst Ross Young previously reported that the company is working on a 27-inch outdoor display with mini-LED technology. It was rumored that the screen will launch in the first quarter of 2023 but the analyst has not shared any other details. However, we can assume that the external monitor could be the updated Studio monitor with ProMotion support.

Apple Studio Screen and Mac Studio

Studio DIsplay debuted earlier this year in March alongside Mac Studio. It features a 27-inch 5K display and a 12MP front camera. The Studio Display is priced at $1,599 versus the Pro Display XDR’s $4,999. However, the latter features a 32-inch screen size with a 6K resolution but does not have a front-facing camera. In addition, it has been equipped with a small LED panel that has rich contrast and deeper blacks. The company is also working on a new version of the Mac Pro with the M2 Ultra.
